TOPEKA– In 2024, the Kansas Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Investigation Division completed 202 firework stand inspections during the Independence Holiday, according to a media release from the agency.
Investigators found 124 deficiencies, with most being fixed on site.
Examples of deficiencies include exits, fire extinguishers and trash. There were 9 separate seizures of illegal fireworks, bottle rockets, at fireworks stands.
The Fire Marshal investigated one case of an injury.
In 2023, the OSFM Investigation Division completed 60 firework stand inspections, with 12 violations found that were corrected on site, and 5 seizures of illegal fireworks
