SALINE COUNTY —A controlled burn got away from a Saline County landowner early Saturday afternoon and spread to adjacent property, forcing four rural fire districts to respond, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.
Just after noon Saturday, 52-year-old Jeffrey Benson was burning grass around his pond in the 3600 block of South Crest Lane when the fire got away from him.
The fire quickly spread north onto a neighbor's the property where it melted part of a fence. The estimated damage to the fence is $2,600, according to Soldan.
The fire continued north and past the 2700 block of South Burma Road before it was extinguished. Saline County Rural Fire Districts 2, 3, 6 and 7 responded to the blaze. There were no injuries reported.
