LYON COUNTY —Two people died in an accident just after 3p.m. Saturday in Lyon County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2021 Kia Telluride driven by Guerrero Moreno, Jr., 44, Wichita, was southbound on the Kansas Turnpike approximately seven miles north of Topeka toll plaza. The SUV rear-ended a 2015 International semi driven by Stetson Cooley, 39, North Little Pulaski, Arkansas. After impact, the SUV came to rest after spinning out.
Anthony Barrera, less than a year-old, according to the KHP, was pronounced dead at at the scene and was transported to Roberts-Blue Funeral Home. Emporia Fire and EMS transported passenger Erin Moreno, 42, Wichita, 3 other juveniles and Guerrero Moreno to Newman Regional Medical Center. Erin Moreno was pronounced deceased just after 4:30p.m.
Cooley was not injured. Guerrero Moreno was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
The condition of the three juveniles in the vehicle is protected data, according to the KHP.
