Big innings lift Manhattan past Junction City in baseball

Manhattan ( 17-3 )  rolled by Junction City 9-2 and 12-2 in a baseball doubleheader Thursday.

Despite the losses Blue Jay coach James Denton thought his team played well. Denton noted in the first game Junction City ( 8-12 ) had just one bad inning. "The wind was blowing out about 30 miles per hour. We ended up giving up four home runs in one inning and it turned into an eight-spot for them."

Junction City took a 2-0 lead in the first inning in the second game but then gave up four walks in the bottom of the first inning including one run. Denton added that Manhattan had a four-run inning later in the game.

Both teams will prepare for regional tournament action next week.
