Citizens help police ID, arrest Kansas shooting suspect

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting and have made an arrest.

Just before 1 p.m. Friday, police responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex in the 800 block of South Hydraulic in Wichita, according to Officer Charley Davidson.

Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old boy who had been shot. EMS transported him to area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed a disturbance ensued in the parking lot of the apartments between 45-year-old Fred Rogers and the victim, who know each other. 

During the disturbance, Rogers pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking the victim and then fled on foot.  Officers arriving in the area located Rogers with the help of  citizens who provided information to help them identify him, according to Davidson.

 Police arrested him without further incident. He is being held on a requested charge of aggravated battery The investigation is ongoing, and the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.  Rogers has previously been arrested and convicted of felony crimes, according to Davidson.
