Police ID victim in burglary killing at Kansas City area home

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement investigating a deadly shooting during a burglary have  identified the victim as 51-year-old Craig L. Scott of Lee’s Summit, according to a statement from police.

The suspect in the investigation has been identified as 31-year-old Keith J. Marshall of Kansas City, MO. The defendant was charged on Saturday by Jackson County Prosecutors with 2nd Degree Murder, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, 1st Degree Burglary and unlawful use of a weapon; bond was set at $250,000 cash.

Just after 8a.m. Friday, police responded to a disturbance call in the 2100 block of SW Rutherford Drive. The 911 caller indicated that a man later identified as Scott had been shot inside of the residence.  The caller also indicated that the suspect was a person known to them. As officers entered the home, they located Scott who was deceased. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and surrendered himself to Police a few hours later. Detectives are working to also establish the timeline of events that led up to the shooting.
