MANHATTAN, Kan. – Third-year head coach Pete Hughes announced K-State’s 2021 baseball schedule, which begins Friday, February 19 and features 31 home games at the recently renovated Tointon Family Stadium.
The Wildcats officially begin the 2021 campaign at the Sanderson Ford College Classic in Surprise, Arizona. K-State will face off with Oregon State, Gonzaga and New Mexico over four days at Surprise Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers.
K-State’s home opener is set for Friday, February 26 against Western Michigan. The three-game series kicks off an eight-game home stand, as the Cats will also play Eastern Illinois (March 5-7) and South Dakota State (March 9-10).
The non-conference slate continues in Houston, Texas, with K-State taking on Northern Illinois (March 12-13) and Rice (March 13-14) at the Owls’ home of Reckling Park.
Following a home weekend series against New Mexico from March 19-21, K-State travels to in-state rival Wichita State (March 23) before beginning Big 12 play at Oklahoma State on Friday, March 26.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders, a 2019 College World Series qualifier, visit Tointon Family Stadium for a three-game set beginning Thursday, April 1. The Wildcats’ home conference slate also features Oklahoma (April 16-18), West Virginia (April 23-25) and TCU (May 20-22).
The Cats will host non-conference opponents in Arkansas-Pine Bluff (April 6-7), Northern Colorado (April 13-14), Missouri (April 27) and Texas Southern (April 30-May 2).
In total, the Wildcats’ 52-game slate features 16 games against 2019 postseason teams, including Baylor, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, TCU, Texas Tech and West Virginia.
All 31 home games are scheduled to be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, while every K-State baseball game can be heard on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM) and streaming online at K-StateSports.com.
K-State won seven of its final nine games before the 2020 season came to a halt, including taking three of four games at Stanford, to finish with a 10-7 record.
The Wildcats return their entire starting lineup from a season ago, highlighted by a weekend rotation that features Big 12 Preseason Pitcher of the Year Jordan Wicks, Connor McCullough and Carson Seymour. K-State’s pitching staff boasted the nation’s sixth-best ERA at 2.07 while allowing just 5.6 hits per nine innings, the fourth-best rate in the country.
