KHP IDs driver who fled from fatal crash

COWLEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal accident that occurred just after 11p.m. Saturday Feb. 18, in Cowley County have identified the driver as 42-year-old Joshua Young of Winfield, according to Trooper Chad Crittenden.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1995 Chevy Camaro was eastbound on 33rd Avenue at Meadowlark in Winfield. The car crossed the centerline, left the roadway, rolled and struck a telephone pole.

A passenger in the car Nicholas R. Morris, 27, Arkansas City, was pronounced dead at the scene and transported Miles Mortuary. Young, the driver of the vehicle  fled the scene of the accident.

The KHP has been working with the Cowley County District Attorneys Office and charges are pending until the investigation is completed.

 Young  is in custody in Sedgwick County on unrelated requested charges of failure to comply and failure to appear, according to online jail records.
