Drone helped Kan. officers recover gun used in shooting

LYON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations 

Just after 9p.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to a report of gunshots in the 700 block of Neosho Street in Emporia, according to Police Captain Ray Mattas.

Several officers went to locate the source of the gunfire and located a man later identified as 33-year-old Juan Cervantes Jr. in the area of the gunfire.

Cervantes ran from the officers and was found again and arrested. In the 700 block of Rural, according to Mattas.

Officers also located several shell casings. A Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputy, using a drone, located a firearm that had been discarded. Cervantes is being held in the Lyon County Jail on requested charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
