HARVEY COUNTY– On Tuesday, Judge Lane of the 9th Judicial District sentenced Michael Jacobs, age 42, of Newton, Kansas, to 226 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for Aggravated Criminal Sodomy and Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child, according to a media release from the Harvey County Attorney.
Jacobs admitted to committing sodomy and lewd fondling on a young girl between 2019 and 2023. The victim was under the age of 13 at the time of the offenses.
In addition to 226 months in prison, Jacobs will be subject to lifetime post-release supervision and sex offender registration.
The courage demonstrated by the victim throughout this process cannot be overstated. Coming forward, facing their offender, and having the strength to see a case through the judicial system takes tremendous courage. My office is honored to stand beside victims as they seek justice, and we will continue to do everything within our authority to hold those who commit these crimes accountable. The strength shown by this victim is a powerful reminder that victims are not defined by what was done to them, they are defined by the courage they demonstrate in moving forward.
The Harvey County Attorney’s Office extends its gratitude to the Newton Police Department, Heart to Heart Child Advocacy Center, and the Kansas Department for Children and Families for their crucial support in the investigation and prosecution of this case
