SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a violent domestic incident have charged a suspect with attempted 2nd degree murder. The injured victims, the suspect's girlfriend and her dog are expected to make a full recovery, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a home in the 1500 block of North New York in Wichita, according to Davidson.  Upon arrival, they contacted a 41-year-old woman who had a severe laceration to her hand and back. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of severe injuries.

The investigation revealed the victim and her boyfriend 41-year-old James E. Brown, were at the home and got into a verbal disturbance.

Brown grabbed a five to six-foot sword during the disturbance, struck her multiple times, and stabbed her dog multiple times.

With the assistance of the community, police located Brown on Wednesday and arrested him without incident, according to Davidson. In addition to the attempted murder charge, Brown is being held on a $100,000 bond on requested charges of cruelty to animals, and aggravated domestic battery, according to Davidson.

Brown has a previous felony conviction, according to Davidson.
