Woman killed after shooting in backyard of Kansas City home

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement are investigating another homicide in Kansas City, Missouri.

Just after 3a.m. Sunday, patrol officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 3800 block of East 62nd Street in Kansas City, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.

As officers arrived they were directed to the backyard of residence on 62nd street. First responders found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. KCFD EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. 

This is being investigated as a homicide and no one is in custody at this point. Detectives are still working to determine what led to shots being fired and the victim being struck. Investigators and crime scene personnel were on scene canvassing for witnesses, physical evidence, and any surveillance footage.
