Kansas man dead, 2 hospitalized after pickups collide

MONTGOMERY COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 11:30a.m. Monday in Montgomery County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1999 Ford F150 driven by Paul David Thomas, 51, Independence, Kansas, was northbound on 3900 Road.

The pickup crossed the center line and struck a southbound 1997 Ford pickup driven by Monty David Phillips, 56, Fredonia.

Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Frontier Forensics.

EMS transported Thomas and a passenger in Phillips pickup identified as Amos Cole, Jr., 55, Fredonia, to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Cole, Jr. was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
