SHAWNEE COUNTY—Authorities are investigating the death of a man during an incident at a Topeka area business.

Just after 8a.m. Saturday, deputies were dispatched to a medical call at the Goodyear Plant in the 1900 block of NW U.S. 24 Highway, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

First responders learned that a 59-year-old man sustained life threatening injuries while working. The Soldier Township Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR - Topeka) responded to the scene as well.

AMR transported the man to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

A statement from Goodyear said, "We deeply regret that a fatality occurred this morning at the Goodyear-Topeka plant. Our thoughts are with our co-worker and his family and colleagues."  The spokesperson said they are conducting an internal investigation and will fully cooperate with outside authorities.
