KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Kansas City, according to a statement from the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Department of Drug and Crime Control.
Just after 7:30p.m. Friday, the Kansas City, Missouri police department received a 911 call about a disturbance involving a weapon in the 3000 Block of 8th Street.
At the scene, officers contacted a suspect at the door of a first floor apartment and officers heard gunshots from inside the apartment.
Officers established a perimeter around the apartment and tactical operations were initiated. The KCPD SWAT team and crisis negotiators responded to the scene and communicated with the suspect for 3 hours.
Just after 11p.m., the suspect exited the rear of the apartment armed with a handgun. A KCPD officer fired at the suspect and struck him. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
