School district cancels football game and will investigate inappropriate behavior.
JEFFERSON COUNTY —Oskaloosa Schools/USD 341 is investigating and responding to reports of inappropriate behavior allegedly involving high school students during the Homecoming activities on Thursday that impacted the community, according to a statement from the school district.
While some activities involved traditional Homecoming celebrations, the school leadership and law enforcement also received reports of vandalism, racial slurs, inappropriate language directed toward staff members and actions that caused families to feel threatened or unsafe. The school district is investigating these reports.
As a result, Friday's pep assembly was canceled and the Homecoming dance postponed. Students involved are asked to report to the high school office by noon on Monday and take full responsibility for their actions.
"Our responsibility is to support our students, staff and families while also holding people accountable when their actions do not reflect expectations and vision culture of Oskaloosa School, " said Activities Director Jamie Jacobs. "Accountability is also an opportunity to learn. We want our students to understand the impact their choices have on others, make things right where harm has occurred and demonstrate through their actions how we move forward together."
