KANSAS CITY —A man shot and critically injured in shooting behind a home in Kansas City, Missouri has died.
On June 9, 2026 just after 6am officers were dispatched to Independence Avenue and Monroe on an ambulance call, according to KCPD Captain Jake Becchina.
On arrival officers located an adult male victim, with a gunshot injury, unresponsive behind a residence there. Officers called for EMS who transported the victim to the hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Assault Unit detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene that day, processed and recovered evidence and canvased for any witnesses and conducted limited interview of the victim.
On Friday night detectives were notified that the victim identified as 53-year-old Mark Simmons, died from his injuries. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation at this time.
Detectives have made progress identifying subject(s) of interest,according to Becchina.
