SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a deadly shooting have identified the victim as 4-year-old Lawrencia Perez-Belair of Topeka.
On Saturday, police responded to a shooting in the 400 block of NE Grattan Street in Topeka, according to Police Lt. Donna Eubanks.
Officers were able to secure the scene and located Perez-Belair who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. The girl was transported to a local hospital and died.
By Saturday afternoon, police reported they had identified all individuals involved and early Sunday reported the arrest of 24-year-old Mariann L. Belair, 24, Topeka. She is being held in Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges Murder in the 1st degree, in the commission of a felony and Aggravated Endangering a child, reckless situation. Police have not reported the relationship between the woman and girl.
