MONTGOMERY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man after a high-speed chase and violent arrest.

Just before 2:30a.m. Sept. 14, sheriff's deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of 16th and Laurel in Independence, Kansas for 90mph in a posted 30mph zone, according to Sheriff Ron Wade.

The deputies activated their emergency lights and sirens and the vehicle failed to stop. The deputies pursued the vehicle through the Cottonwood Street and 14th Street area of Independence, Kansas.

After the vehicle struck a stop sign at 13th and Cottonwood, the driver exited the vehicle and started running. The deputies recognized the driver to be 45-year-old Norman Hiner of Independence, Kansas.

Deputies knew Hiner had several felony warrants and has eluded officers on several different occasions in the past few weeks. Deputies gave chase on foot for several blocks and eventually were able to catch Hiner and take him into custody with the assistance of the Independence Kansas Police Department.

During the arrest process, Hiner started biting one to the Independence Police Officers leg.

Hiner remains jailed on requested charges of flee and attempt to elude law enforcement, battery on an officer, and several traffic infractions.
