HARVEY COUNTY —Police are investigating a report from the Newton Mexican American Athletic Club of a possible theft of organization funds, according to a social media report from police in Newton.

The club reported on their social media page they recently identified that organizational funds were misappropriated by an individual. Upon discovery, the committee took immediate action to address the situation and secure all remaining assets.

"NMAAC is actively working with the Newton Police Department as this matter is investigated and resolved. The committee is committed to full transparency and accountability throughout this process."

"This situation is deeply disappointing and does not reflect the values or mission of NMAAC. For decades, the organization has existed to serve the community, celebrate culture, and support the long-standing tradition of men’s fastpitch softball in Newton."

"Despite this setback, planning continues for the 78th Annual Men’s Fastpitch Softball Tournament. The committee remains focused on delivering a meaningful and successful event for players, families, and supporters."

"NMAAC asks for the community’s understanding and support during this time. The organization is determined to rebuild, strengthen its processes, and continue its legacy for future generations."

Police are working with board members and their bank to determine the extent of the theft.

The investigation is in very early stages, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
