Police make high risk traffic stop to catch Kan. kidnapping suspect

HARVEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man for alleged aggravated kidnapping and other possible charges after a traffic stop in Harvey County.

Just before 7:30a.m Monday, dispatchers advised that a female caller reported  she had been beaten and was being kidnapped by a man in a stolen vehicle, according to a media release.

Officers from the Harvey County Sheriff's Office, Newton police and Hesston police stopped the vehicle at Casey's on Lincoln Blvd in Hesston. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop, which involves officers displaying their weapons to maintain safety for all parties involved.  

The occupants of the vehicle complied and officers arrested the male driver and booked him into the Harvey County Detention Center on requested charges including Aggravated Kidnapping and Domestic Battery. The suspect and victim were acquaintances. Authorities have not released the name of the suspect.  Deputies also discovered the vehicle  had an altered VIN and was previously reported as stolen.
