Stephanie C. Upson passed away peacefully in her residence at Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan, KS, on June 30, 2025.

Born in Henderson, TX, Stephanie spent her early childhood in Texas and Houma, LA, before moving with her family to Pretty Prairie, KS. Stephanie was the first member of her family to attend college, graduating in 1955 from Kansas State University where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. After graduation, she taught kindergarten in San Diego, CA, before marrying Dan and moving to Manhattan. Stephanie cherished her large and extended family in Texas, delighting in annual family reunions full of music and laughter. She and Dan enjoyed traveling, their large circle of friends, K-State athletics, boating at Tuttle Creek every summer, spending time picnicking in the country, and playing tennis. Stephanie was an avid reader and movie aficionado. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the local PEO chapter. Most of all, Stephanie was extremely proud of her three children and four grandchildren. Her greatest joy was sharing in their lives and celebrating them and their accomplishments.

Stephanie is survived by her brother, Roy (Sheryl Ballard) Clayton, Manhattan; daughter Connie (Tom) Johnson, Calistoga, CA; son Ron (Jonna) Upson, Taylorsville, KY; daughter Elizabeth (Ed) Wells, Lebanon, OH; four grandchildren, Sabrina Johnson, Alexis (William) Johnson Brown, Jacob Wourms, Joe Wourms; nephew Bryan (Kristy) Clayton and great-nephews Haiden Clayton, Brady Clayton, and great-niece Scarlett Clayton, as well as several cousins.

Stephanie is preceded in death by her husband, Dan W. Upson, parents Roy E. and Clodell J. Clayton, and nephew Blake Clayton, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family is making funeral and graveside service arrangements and anticipate a date in early September.

Mark Daniel Brenner entered eternity in the early hours of Monday, June 30th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Mark was born on September 29, 1961, in Junction City, Kansas, the youngest to Myron Brenner and Debbie Congrove born to Verland and Tena Brenner. From an early age, he had a deep love for cars, a passion that stayed with him throughout his teenage and adult years. Whether working on them, talking about them, or simply admiring them, cars were a lifelong joy and creative outlet.

Mark will be remembered for his selfless, outgoing, funny, and kind-hearted nature. He brought light to every room and always had a story to tell, a joke to share, or a thoughtful idea to offer. His humor, straightforward nature, and creativity made him unforgettable.

Mark cared for his wife and family; he often remarked that being a father was one of the greatest joys of his life. He welcomed Blake and Brien into his life with open arms and poured his heart into raising all four of his children—Blake, Brien, Bradlee, and Baileigh. Mark was a devoted father who would do anything for his kids and took pride in being their father.

In January 2024, Mark was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. He faced the diagnosis with courage, strength, and grace, displaying resilience and determination, right up to the end.

Mark is survived by his sons, Blake and Bradlee Brenner, his daughter, Baileigh Brenner and his granddaughter Beatrice Brenner. He joins his beloved son Brien, his parents, and many other loved ones in heaven. His family will miss everything about him, his many stories, his silly jokes, his creative mind and his joyful spirit.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at First Assembly of God, located at 2310 Candlewood Dr., Manhattan, KS 66503, the visitation/viewing: will be at 9:00 – 10:00 AM the Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 AM. Donna Joy Jones Blaske, 75, a beloved mother, sister, teacher, and mentor, passed away on June 28, 2025. Donna was born August 19, 1949 in Marysville to Donald Jones and Caryl Weaver-Jones. She grew up on family farms near Frankfort and Beattie.

As a young child, her family spent precious time with aunts, uncles and cousins. She went on trips with her Jones grandparents which transitioned into her taking trips with her own grandchildren.

Donna attended school in Frankfort, Axtell and Marysville, graduating from KSU in elementary education and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. She was a teacher for 41 years.

On August 24, 1969, she married Mike Blaske and were blessed with a son, Brett Elmer and Katie Joy Blaske Tadtman, (Justin) of Clay Center, parents of Colten, Aubrey and Claire, and Dr. Whitney Joy Blaske Hood, (Demonte), parents of Bricen, Amyah and Titus of Joshua, TX. Mike and Donna divorced in 2008. Donna is proceeded in death by infant grandson Jeret Tadtman and her parents.

She enjoyed attending family sporting and school events, and trips in the grandma van on yearly parent-free vacations to Colorado.

Brandy Nicole Casey, 46, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. She was born on April 27, 1979, in Manhattan, Kansas, to Cheryl “Sherri” Helzer and Dale Thibodeau.

Brandy was a strong and compassionate woman, often turning close friends into family. Even during times of illness, her focus remained on making sure others were cared for and supported. She always found a way to make life’s challenges manageable. She cherished spending time with her children, family, and those she held dear. Whether shopping, exploring new places, or simply sharing a moment together, Brandy found joy in the company of loved ones and in creating lasting memories.

Brandy is survived by her step-father, Jeff Helzer of Newton, KS; her children, Benjamin Casey and Raevyn Sanders of Manhattan, KS; her foster daughter, Anna Benson; brothers, Dallas Helzer of Krakow, Poland, and Anthony Helzer of Newton, KS; sister Virginia Helzer of Newton, KS; her treasured friends, Amber, Jami and Owen; and her beloved dogs, Kapone and Baby.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sherri Helzer, and grandparents Kenneth and Margaret Casey.

She was born on September 23, 1955, in Seneca, Kansas. Karen was a beacon of warmth and kindness, qualities that defined her throughout her life. Her journey brought her to Wamego, Kansas, where she created a home filled with love, laughter, and open doors for anyone in need.

Karen's life was a testament to the beauty of generosity and the strength of a compassionate heart. As a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, she nurtured those around her. She will be missed dearly.

Karen is preceded in death by her mother, Anna Mae Slack; father, Otto Slack; son-in-law, Rex White; and grandson, Skyler Havens. Mary Diane Labbe of Wamego, Ks passed away on June 27, 2025, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Ks. She was born in Hays, Ks, to Sylvester and Evelyn (Marquardt) Schmidt on February 7, 1954. Mary was the sixth child of twelve born to Sylvester and Evelyn. Mary was a cheerleader while attending St. Bernard’s Catholic School until 8th grade and a member of the Wamego High School Class of 1972.

Mary enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats. She enjoyed dancing and music and one of her all-time favorite songs was Woolly Bully. Her brother David remembers Mary being very competitive at playing Jacks. As she ran, she would snap her fingers, so naturally she was teased by her brothers. There’s even a story of Mary being chased by a rooster that still brings great laughter. She could “run like a deer” on our gravel driveway while being barefoot! Mary had a very giving nature, always sending cards and made sure our family’s graves had flowers on them.

Mary was preceded in death by her father Sylvester (1990), mother Evelyn (2009), three brothers, Jimmy (1949), Mike (2009) and Stan (2015), brother-in-law John Richardson (2008), sister-in-law Marti Schmidt (2020), her father’s three siblings and six of her mother’s siblings.

Mary Schmidt Labbe

Bradley L. Budden, 75, of Abilene, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in the company of loved ones.

Born on December 3, 1949, in Clay Center, Kansas, Brad was the son of Florence Fyfe and Lyman Budden. He grew up in the surrounding area, but it was in Abilene where he truly put down roots and made his home. A 1967 graduate of Abilene High School, Brad went on to serve his country in the National Guard during the Vietnam War era.

Brad began his professional life with KP&amp;L, but soon pivoted to a long tenured career with Southwestern Bell Telephone, where he worked as a lineman, splicer, and installation and repair technician. He continued this work through the transition to AT&amp;T, ultimately retiring after a long and dedicated career. Never one to sit still, Brad later worked for Horizon Farm &amp; Ranch Realty, continuing to lend his expertise and work ethic well into his later years.

Brad was known for his hard work, his ornery nature, a sarcastic sense of humor, and his deep love of horses and team roping. He shared his passion for horses with his children and his many roping partners across the decades. His breadth of knowledge and experience in equine husbandry was truly expansive, and should be the benchmark of dedication for all who have a passion. He was a genuine cowboy to the core, and none did it better. Though above all, he was fiercely devoted to his children—always their biggest supporter and advocate.

He is survived by his children (and their spouses): Rachelle Swearingen (Ray), Sara Meng (Justin), and Theodore Budden (Emily); his grandchildren: Samantha and Grant Swearingen, Claire, Claudia, and Caroline Meng, Benjamin and Rosie Budden; and one great-grandchild, Walker.

Brad also leaves behind two half-siblings, Kelly and Tim Budden; and many extended family members and friends who will remember him with love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Fyfe and Lyman Budden, as well as his brothers, Arden and Gailen Budden.

A memorial service will be held at Community Bible Church in Abilene at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 12th. Burial will follow at Rose Meron Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 P.M., at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Brad’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at CFF.org.

Bradley L. A 1967 graduate of Abilene High School, Brad went on to serve his country in the National Guard during the Vietnam War era.Brad began his professional life with KP&amp;L, but soon pivoted to a long tenured career with Southwestern Bell Telephone, where he worked as a lineman, splicer, and installation and repair technician. He continued this work through the transition to AT&amp;T, ultimately retiring after a long and dedicated career. Never one to sit still, Brad later worked for Horizon Farm &amp; Ranch Realty, continuing to lend his expertise and work ethic well into his later years.Brad was known for his hard work, his ornery nature, a sarcastic sense of humor, and his deep love of horses and team roping. He shared his passion for horses with his children and his many roping partners across the decades. His breadth of knowledge and experience in equine husbandry was truly expansive, and should be the benchmark of dedication for all who have a passion. He was a genuine cowboy to the core, and none did it better. Though above all, he was fiercely devoted to his children—always their biggest supporter and advocate.He is survived by his children (and their spouses): Rachelle Swearingen (Ray), Sara Meng (Justin), and Theodore Budden (Emily); his grandchildren: Samantha and Grant Swearingen, Claire, Claudia, and Caroline Meng, Benjamin and Rosie Budden; and one great-grandchild, Walker.Brad also leaves behind two half-siblings, Kelly and Tim Budden; and many extended family members and friends who will remember him with love.He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Fyfe and Lyman Budden, as well as his brothers, Arden and Gailen Budden.A memorial service will be held at Community Bible Church in Abilene at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 12th. Waltraud “Wally” Madacs, 85, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Wally was born May 14, 1940 in Obeuenbach, West Germany to Walter and Klane Karl, and immigrated to the United States in 1972, then settled in Abilene In 1973.

Wally was the lead at Tony’s and worked for SRS as a Home Health Aid. In 1996 she became the co-founder of Wally’s Home Health, Family Care Home and Whispering Timbers of Solomon.

Wally retired in 2010, She loved to garden and travel and was an active Christian all her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Kalman Madacs; sons, Thomas Madacs and Marcus Madacs, son-in-law Douglas Londeen; and a brother-in-law Heinrich Gries.

Wally is survived by daughter Birgitte Mager, grandson Michael Mager, and great grandsons, Michael and Noah and Friend Alex Lee; daughter-in-law Amy Madacs, grandchildren, Alex and Benjamin Madacs and Rachel Madacs Johnson; and great-grandchildren , Olivia, Felix, Gracey, Gellamy and Soldier Madacs. Other survivors include her sister, Tonie Gries of Germany, sister-in-law Rita Karl of Germany.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 9, 2025 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. Her final resting place will be in the Prairie Mound Cemetery near Solomon.

Harold “Wayne” Strong, age 87, of Abilene, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025. He was born on October 12, 1937 in O’Neill, Nebraska. Wayne lived a full life defined by passion, service, and deep devotion to his family and community.

Wayne served in the United States Air Force beginning in 1955. During his four years of service, he was honored to serve as an honor guard for President Dwight D. Eisenhower during a base visit in Arizona. While in the Air Force, Wayne also played on the travel basketball team and worked as a lifeguard—where he fatefully met the love of his life, Janet.

Following his military service, Wayne discovered his lifelong passion in the world of greyhound racing. With pride and dedication, he raised numerous champion greyhounds, earning multiple placements in the Greyhound Hall of Fame—including his own. His contributions to the sport were profound: he played an instrumental role in the establishment of pari-mutuel gaming in Kansas and was a pioneering advocate for artificial insemination in greyhound breeding.

Wayne’s hobbies included gambling, golfing, watching all sports—especially Nebraska football—and, most of all, supporting his children and grandchildren in everything they did. Whether he was poolside swimming laps, in the kitchen making fresh-squeezed orange juice, or at the table teaching a lesson in life and cards, Wayne had a way of making moments unforgettable.

Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Strong, and six children Teressa Kohman (Kurt) of Solomon, KS, Natalie Dick of Solomon, KS, Greg Strong (Louise) of Wheeling, WV, David Strong (Marcy) of Solomon, KS, Gina Dalton (Kevin) of Abilene, KS, Kim Rolfs (Trevor) of Little River, KS. He is also survived by his brother, Terry Strong (Pat) of Florida, 18 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Norma Strong, and his sisters, Janet (Steve) Stevens, Glenna Loi, and nephew Brian Stephens.

Robert L. Emig, 87 of Abilene passed away Monday, June 23, 2025. He was born in Carlton, Kansas April 6, 1938 the son of Harold Leroy and Edna Mae (Felbush) Emig. He grew up in the Carlton area graduated from Dickinson County Community High School, Chapman with the class of 1956. 

On April 6, 1958 he was united in marriage to Shirley Bauman at the New Basel Church, south of Abilene. Robert retired from ADM Alliance Nutrition after 35 years. Robert is survived by his loving wife Shirley Emig. Two daughters: Vicky Emig and Wendy Garrison and husband Ron. One son: Gary Emig. Six grandchildren: Melissa Hocker; Rachel Hocker; Shannon Young; Michelle Young; Connor Garrison; Maura Garrison. Three brothers: Phil, Keith and Elon Emig. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Don and Harold Emig. 

The family has chosen cremation. No services are planned at this time. The family suggests memorials be given to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Cody Michael VarVais was born on May 4, 1999, in Sioux City, Iowa.

He was the second child born to Shiloh and Thomas VarVais.

He attended Chapman High School, where he graduated in 2017. He continued his technical certifications as he began working as a diesel technician.

In 2022, he married JaelAnn Hoover. He was an active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and Elks Riders of Junction City.

He was a devoted husband, son, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling on his motorcycle, being outdoors, and being the life of the party.

Cody was called to eternal rest on June 27, 2025. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Cody is survived by, his wife, JaelAnn; his parents, Thomas and Shiloh VarVais; two sisters, Desiree and Victoria; grandmother, Susan; aunts and uncles, cousins, and a host of beloved relatives and friends.

Jerry J. Kratzer, 73, of Dwight, Kansas passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Cremation will take place. A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2025 at his daughter Brenda's home.

Jerry was born July 24, 1951, in Allentown, Pennsylvania the son of Franklin and Rachel (Ruppert) Kratzer.

Jerry owned and operated his own trucking company for many years. He was part of the Caterpillar Million Miler Club and put 2.6 million miles on his Peterbilt. His first truck was a 1979 Marmon cabover truck. Over the years, Jerry was well known for his distinctive truck and is featured in a book. He was a member of the Pike Township Sportsman's Association in Pennsylvania. He enjoyed collecting guns. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.&nbsp;

Jerry enjoyed playing the guitar and was proud of his early sixties custom made hollow body Gibson electric guitar.&nbsp;

On August 14, 1971, he married Diane Freese in Topton, Pennsylvania. She passed away March 19, 2022.

Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Kratzer and his wife Mary of Dwight, Kanas; one daughter, Brenda A. Dulaney and husband Jonathan of Junction City, Kansas; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion Bauer of Maryland.

Jacque was born August 21, 1984 in Russell, Kansas the daughter of Leo Denio.

Jacque had a passion with the banking industry. She worked as a branch manager at Sunflower Bank in Junction City, Kansas. Halloween was her favorite holiday. She spent many years volunteering at Zombie Toxin Haunted House in Junction City, Kansas where she met her haunt mom and dad Rob and Jean Blanken.

On July 7, 2007, she married Joseph Bissonnette in Junction City, Kansas.

Survivors include her husband Joseph of Junction City, Kansas; two daughters, Desirae Bissonnette and Theresa Bissonnette both of Junction City, Kansas; four brothers, Kenny Stroede of Holyrood, Kansas, Danny Denio of Springville, Utah, Cody Denio of McPherson, Kansas and Shawn Denio of Wakefield, Kansas; two sisters, Michelle Leonard of Manhattan, Kansas and Braylynn Denio of Junction City, Kansas; her fur babies, Hercules and Buddy. A host of many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous other friends and family will miss her dearly.

Betsey L. Printy, 85, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on June 30, 2025. She was born on December 6, 1939 at Ft. Riley, Kansas to James and Rachel (Dalquest) Bundy. She was the youngest of six children.

She graduated from Junction City High school and then worked at the courthouse. Most of her career, and just short of 50 years, she worked for the Brown family (Lowell, Earl and Jay) managing their office, selling insurance, real estate and auctions.

She enjoyed planning parties and having family and friends around. The best time of the year was spring when she could shop for flowers and start working in the yard. She also enjoyed traveling around the United States visting family and friends and even attending NHRA Drag Racing events.

She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Rachel and James. Also her siblings, Mary Ann (Grant), James J (Bundy), Carl D (Bundy), Helen (Bundy) and Jerry (Bundy)

She leaves behind her son, Van Printy, Junction City, Kansas.

Richard was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He was a member of the VFW Philip Billard Post #1650 in Topeka, Kansas. He was an avid motorcyclist owning many Indian motorcycles throughout his life.

Richard is survived by his sister Mary A. Allen of Wakefield, KS; Daughter, Debra Kesselring; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Isabel Ann Winterman, 93, of rural Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Stormont -Vail Health Center in Topeka.&nbsp; She was a life-long resident of the community.

&nbsp; Isabel was born on November 4, 1931, in rural Flush, the daughter of Lawrence John and Barbara (Rebitzer) Umscheid. She attended local grade school and graduated from Flush High School.&nbsp;

&nbsp; Isabel worked as a beautician in her own home shop for several years before working as the head cook at Sale Barn Cafe and then worked in the kitchen for the St. George Elementary School until her retirement.&nbsp; She found joy in mowing and tending to her yard.&nbsp; Isabel was a seamstress and in her earlier years made most of her own clothing.&nbsp; She was known for being able to accomplish anything that she set her mind too.&nbsp; Isabel also enjoyed playing cards, board games and jigsaw puzzles.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Flush.

&nbsp; Isabel married Henry B. Winterman on November 11, 1951, at Flush.&nbsp; For forty-five years they lived their lives together until his death on April 3, 1997.

&nbsp; Isabel is survived by her son, Arthur Winterman (Anna) of Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Aaron Winterman, Westmoreland and Jessica Cleavenger (Karl), Leavenworth; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Lucas Cleavenger; and her sister, Genny Diederich, Wamego.

Isabel was preceded in death by her parents and her four sisters; Irene Mills, Helen Brazzle, Angie Brazzle and Betty J. Duncan; and six brothers, Wayne Umscheid, Don Umscheid, Lawrence Umscheid, Jr., Cletus Umscheid, Carl Umscheid, and Miney Umscheid.

She attended local grade school and graduated from Flush High School.&nbsp;&nbsp; Isabel worked as a beautician in her own home shop for several years before working as the head cook at Sale Barn Cafe and then worked in the kitchen for the St. George Elementary School until her retirement.&nbsp; She found joy in mowing and tending to her yard.&nbsp; Isabel was a seamstress and in her earlier years made most of her own clothing.&nbsp; She was known for being able to accomplish anything that she set her mind too.&nbsp; Isabel also enjoyed playing cards, board games and jigsaw puzzles.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Flush.&nbsp; Isabel married Henry B. Winterman on November 11, 1951, at Flush.&nbsp; For forty-five years they lived their lives together until his death on April 3, 1997.&nbsp; Isabel is survived by her son, Arthur Winterman (Anna) of Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Aaron Winterman, Westmoreland and Jessica Cleavenger (Karl), Leavenworth; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Lucas Cleavenger; and her sister, Genny Diederich, Wamego.Isabel was preceded in death by her parents and her four sisters; Irene Mills, Helen Brazzle, Angie Brazzle and Betty J. Thomas R. "Tom" Manning, 75, of Junction City, Kansas passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.

A private graveside service with military honors will be conducted at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery.

Tom was born June 26, 1950, the son of Ralph S. and Virginia (Rook) Manning.

Tom served in the United States Air Force. After serving in the United States Air Force, he began a long and successful career with auto mechanics. He owned and operated Manning's 66 Service Station on Topeka Boulevard in Topeka, Kansas. In 1986, he moved to Junction City, Kansas and managed the Firestone Complete Auto Care. He retired from Firestone in 2005. After his retirement, he continued his passion with muscle cars and antiques. His collection consisted of vintage gas pumps, old vintage gas station signs and slot cars that brought back childhood memories. He was very passionate about preserving automobile history.

He married Barbara Fontenot July 15, 1995 in Junction City, Kansas. They would have been married thirty two years this July.

Survivors include his wife Barbara of the home in Junction City, Kansas; one son, Joe Manning of Junction City, Kansas; two daughters, Heather M. Boland and Melinda Graff both of Junction City, Kansas; five grandchildren, Jerrad Boland, Cassie David, Katrina Torres-Manning, Kiara Manning and Joseph Manning, Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Jameson David, Julianna David, Ryan Torres-Manning and Christopher Torres-Manning; one brother, Terry Manning of Wisconsin; one niece, Mindy Manning.

Lois Marie Feldhausen, 91, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Sunday (June 29, 2025) at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.

Born August 21, 1933 in Riley, Kansas, Lois was the daughter of John M. and Alberta (White) Habluetzel. She married Art Morse Feldhausen on April 18, 1954 in Wamego. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2003.

Lois was a homemaker for many years. In her later years she worked as a Needs Assessor for the Riley County Senior Center and then as a cook for the Westloop Pizza Hut in Manhattan, retiring at the age of 81.

Lois loved cooking and solving puzzles, especially Sudoku.

Survivors include her son, John Feldhausen (Angela) of Monet, MO; her grandchildren Zi Lynn (Alex) Johnson and son Xander of Dallas Center, IA, and Brady (Sarah) Howard of Ely, NV; her sister, Janice Hedrick of Manhattan, KS; her sister in law, Juanita Habluetzel of Basehor, KS; five nieces, Sandi Deines of Ogden, KS, Sue Yenzer (Gary) of St. George, KS, Shari Liming of St. George, KS, Nancy Thompson (Russ) of Manhattan, KS and Debbie Hedrick of Manhattan, KS; a nephew, James Kelsey of Bonner Springs, KS; and many great nieces and great nephews.

Michael David (Dave) Stover of Maple Hill, Kansas passed peacefully at the St. Marys Manor on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Dave was the first born of Donald Dean Stover and Jacqueline Mae (Farrar) on September 08, 1953 in Hutchinson, Kansas. He grew up in Tescott, Kansas where he also attended school.

Dave served state side in the US Army from 1974 to 1980 during the Vietnam war. He earned the 'National Defense Service' Medal and 'Expert Rifle' award. He also earned the ‘lmproved HAWK Continuous Wave Radar Repairman' at the U.S. Army Missile &amp; Munitions Center and School from Redstone Arsenal Alabama in 1975.

Dave was united in marriage to Cynthia (Cindy) Martell. After a blind date and 6 months later, they were wed on January 21, 1984 at the St. Marys Immaculate Conception Church.

Dave worked for several Electrical Companies after leaving the Army. In April of 1987 he earned his Block &amp; Associates Contractor/ Master's Electrical License. Dave and Cindy took a leap of faith and opened their own electrical contracting company in 1993 in Maple Hill, Kansas. And over time, established another office in Junction City, Kansas starting in 2002. Dave was a workaholic and great provider for his family. If he had his choice, he would have worked up until the time of his death. To him "Retirement" was a four-letter word! But when he found out in October of 2024 of his Stage IV Lung Cancer- he didn't have a choice but to slow down. Dave's Electric, Inc. stood the test of time for 32 years with cancer finally winning. Dave wanted it known that he died because of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctor's orders and raising hell for more than 7 decades.

He loved spending time with family and especially his grandchildren; watching them at their school programs &amp; playing sports.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Cindy of 41+ years and their children: Mike (Brandy) of Abilene, Eva Jennings of Salina, Garrett (Jessica) of Rossville, Nathan (Ally) of Ottawa, and Trevor of Topeka. He is also survived by his brother, Garry (Mary) of Minneapolis, KS, his sister, Debbie (Lyle) Turner of Salina, 9 Grandchildren, Michaela, Triston, Jasmine, Kaden, Ben, Rylynn, Dillon, Collin, Aria and 1 Great-Granddaughter, Hadley.

Lonnie Lakin, 66, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Thursday (June 26, 2025) at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Lonnie was born in Manhattan Kansas, August 31, 1958 to Charles Lakin and Mary J. (Deibler) Lakin. Lonnie's father tragically died when Lonnie was young. His mother later remarried Victor Claeys who loved and raised Lonnie as his own.

Lonnie married his best friend and high school sweetheart Tammy Sue Piper on October 26, 1979 in St. George, Kansas. Together they were blessed with 3 children. Tammy preceded him in death on May 28, 2010.

Lonnie enjoyed fishing. While living in Florida, he could be found spending time at the beach and deep sea fishing. Lonnie was known for staying busy and always lending a helping hand. He was a “jack of all trades” and could fix or repair anything. He will be remembered as one who was always there to help others.

Lonnie was employed as a utility contractor and later as regional supervisor of the Gulf Coast for UtiliQuest. His work moved the family from Wamego to Kansas City, Virginia and then Florida. Following Tammy’s untimely death, Lonnie joined his family and moved back to Wamego in 2013. Lonnie was self employed for many years, and later worked for Howell Lumber Co, and Oswalt Wrecker Service. Lonnie was well known for his skilled backhoe and excavating work in the Manhattan and surrounding areas.

Survivors include his mother, Mary J. Claeys of St. George, KS; a daughter, Shannon Brown, husband Charles of Wamego; two sons, Jason Lakin, wife Alycea of Wamego and Tanner Lakin, wife Brittany of Westmoreland; five grandchildren, Payton Lakin, Olivia Brown, Destany Brown, Landon Lakin and Logan Lakin; one great granddaughter, Paisley Lakin; one brother; four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Stephen Francis Koppenheffer, 80, of Junction City, KS peacefully passed away on June 22, 2025. Born on September 22, 1944, in Junction City, Kansas to Myrl and Ethel (Shane) Koppenheffer, Stephen grew up in Junction City, graduating from Junction City High School.

In October of 1965, he married Sandra Engstrom, his one and only true love. Together, they lovingly raised their family in Junction City. Steve worked for the government in civil service for 18 years, successfully venturing on to self-employment in real estate and construction, to which he worked until retirement.

Steve was an adoring husband, loving and supportive father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He found joy through spending time with his family, working on the family farm, and playing in his garden.

Steve is survived by his loving family: daughter, Laura (husband Ozzie) Cornejo of Maryland; son, Roger (wife Donna) Koppenheffer of Texas; 8 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchild; one sibling Sylvia (husband David) of Colorado; and an abundance of beautiful family and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, Sandra; and son, Jeffrey.

Stephen Francis Koppenheffer

Xavier Glen Carpenter, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on July 15, 2024. The only son born to April Carpenter on April 6, 2006, in Manhattan, Kansas. Xavier’s life was a whirlwind of football, working, and being goofy with the people he loved.

Xavier grew up in Junction City. From a young age, he enjoyed playing sports wither with the school or special teams outside the school sports. He played football, basketball, and baseball; always a team player and a supportive player to his teammates. In 5th grade he had the lead role as “Cat” in Cat-In-The-Hat with his school musical. He spent his free time down at the 12th Street Community Center, the YMCA, playing video games, and attending church. Xavier was baptized and later accepted Christ. With the church he won awards for scripture quizzing, he enjoyed the theatrical positions he held in the holiday plays, and was overjoyed when his church sports team won first place in the KSExtreme football and basketball events. Xavier kept family, friends, and those around him in stitches with his goofiness. Although a few times his activities might have caught a sideways glance or two, Xavier always brought a smile to the people around him.

Xavier and his family moved to Virginia in 2020. He attended L.C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Virginia, where he was a member of the football team from 2020 to 2024, served as a team captain and received an award for top Metro Defense player. His team called him Kansas. Unfortunately, during his senior year, Xavier faced an ACL, and meniscus tears, preventing him from playing his final season but he was with the team and even a Captain though he could not play, he was always there for his team. Despite his medical setback, Xavier’s leadership showed even more during this challenging time. He was an exceptional player on both sides of the ball, a great friend to all he met, he even continued gathering youth in the local area to help teach them sports. Xavier had constantly respected coaches, teachers, parents, and adults. He became an “804” boy at heart.

Xavier was heading back to Kansas from Virginia to attend Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas when he lost his life. He had worked his way back to being able to return to the gridiron and was determined to overcome the obstacles that had once counted him out. The road to recovery and his dream was hard and painful, but he made it happen for himself. Xavier decided to major in sports science as he wanted a related field that would keep him connected to football, ensuring he would have a career path in the sport he loved if playing football didn’t work out.

Over the years, Xavier went by many names: Xavier, Zay, Xae, XMan, X, Kansas and more recently, Deuce (from his game shirt number). Regardless of what you called him, knowing Xavier meant loving him. Though he claimed to not have many friends and liked to keep to himself, it is now abundantly clear that whether he was being humble or genuinely unaware, he had countless friends and people who considered him family. He was never alone. Fun and goofy yet calm and quiet, Xavier was truly one of a kind.

Xavier was preceded in death by his brother, Trashun Lewis, maternal great grandfather, Ronald Osterman, and his uncle Jackie Ball.

Xavier is survived by and deeply missed by his loving mother April Carpenter, father Jared Carpenter and biological father Tyrone Atkins-Bingley; siblings Na’Tayah Carpenter of Chester, Virginia, Jerriona Barfield, Javonna Barfield, Latrice Johnson, Kaladen Turner, and DaeJuan Rhodes of Winfield, Louisiana, Tamiya Turner of Houston, Texas, and many other newfound siblings; maternal great grandmother Patricia Osterman and maternal grandmother Tina Bailey (Osterman) of Junction City, Kansas, paternal grandparents Deionne and Johnny Carpenter of Winfield, Louisiana; aunts and uncles Shontay Mikula of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Dieonna Carpenter of Winfield, Louisiana, Laron and LaKeshia Carpenter of Terrell, Texas and James “Tony” Jones of Dodson, Louisiana, plus an abundance of other family members who loved him dearly.

Xavier’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His life, though short, was a testament to the impact one individual can have on their community and the world. Rest in peace, dear Xavier. Your memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy to all who know you. As we bid farewell to this remarkable young man, let us carry forward the light he brought into our lives.

Xavier Glen Carpenter, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on July 15, 2024. The only son born to April Carpenter on April 6, 2006, in Manhattan, Kansas. Xavier’s life was a whirlwind of football, working, and being goofy with the people he loved.Xavier grew up in Junction City. From a young age, he enjoyed playing sports wither with the school or special teams outside the school sports. He played football, basketball, and baseball; always a team player and a supportive player to his teammates. In 5th grade he had the lead role as “Cat” in Cat-In-The-Hat with his school musical. He spent his free time down at the 12th Street Community Center, the YMCA, playing video games, and attending church. Xavier was baptized and later accepted Christ. With the church he won awards for scripture quizzing, he enjoyed the theatrical positions he held in the holiday plays, and was overjoyed when his church sports team won first place in the KSExtreme football and basketball events. Xavier kept family, friends, and those around him in stitches with his goofiness. Although a few times his activities might have caught a sideways glance or two, Xavier always brought a smile to the people around him.Xavier and his family moved to Virginia in 2020. He attended L.C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Virginia, where he was a member of the football team from 2020 to 2024, served as a team captain and received an award for top Metro Defense player. His team called him Kansas. Unfortunately, during his senior year, Xavier faced an ACL, and meniscus tears, preventing him from playing his final season but he was with the team and even a Captain though he could not play, he was always there for his team. Despite his medical setback, Xavier’s leadership showed even more during this challenging time. He was an exceptional player on both sides of the ball, a great friend to all he met, he even continued gathering youth in the local area to help teach them sports. Xavier had constantly respected coaches, teachers, parents, and adults. He became an “804” boy at heart.Xavier was heading back to Kansas from Virginia to attend Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas when he lost his life. He had worked his way back to being able to return to the gridiron and was determined to overcome the obstacles that had once counted him out. The road to recovery and his dream was hard and painful, but he made it happen for himself. Xavier decided to major in sports science as he wanted a related field that would keep him connected to football, ensuring he would have a career path in the sport he loved if playing football didn’t work out.Over the years, Xavier went by many names: Xavier, Zay, Xae, XMan, X, Kansas and more recently, Deuce (from his game shirt number). Regardless of what you called him, knowing Xavier meant loving him. Though he claimed to not have many friends and liked to keep to himself, it is now abundantly clear that whether he was being humble or genuinely unaware, he had countless friends and people who considered him family. He was never alone. Fun and goofy yet calm and quiet, Xavier was truly one of a kind.Xavier was preceded in death by his brother, Trashun Lewis, maternal great grandfather, Ronald Osterman, and his uncle Jackie Ball.Xavier is survived by and deeply missed by his loving mother April Carpenter, father Jared Carpenter and biological father Tyrone Atkins-Bingley; siblings Na’Tayah Carpenter of Chester, Virginia, Jerriona Barfield, Javonna Barfield, Latrice Johnson, Kaladen Turner, and DaeJuan Rhodes of Winfield, Louisiana, Tamiya Turner of Houston, Texas, and many other newfound siblings; maternal great grandmother Patricia Osterman and maternal grandmother Tina Bailey (Osterman) of Junction City, Kansas, paternal grandparents Deionne and Johnny Carpenter of Winfield, Louisiana; aunts and uncles Shontay Mikula of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Dieonna Carpenter of Winfield, Louisiana, Laron and LaKeshia Carpenter of Terrell, Texas and James “Tony” Jones of Dodson, Louisiana, plus an abundance of other family members who loved him dearly.Xavier’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His life, though short, was a testament to the impact one individual can have on their community and the world. Rest in peace, dear Xavier. Your memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy to all who know you. Gregg Biggs, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on June 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Born the son of Ross and Maxine Biggs, Gregg lived a full and vibrant life. A true jack of all trades, always lending a helping hand, and had a gift for connecting with everyone he encountered. He was one of THE BEST salesman. Many lifelong friendships were formed during his years selling cars at Heritage Motors in Topeka, where his warm smile and genuine nature made him a favorite among customers and coworkers alike. He also devoted many years to the family business, Biggs Realty, and later continued his career in real estate with other agencies. Gregg never met a stranger and often assumed most people had at least 30 minutes to talk — he loved catching up with you any chance he could get.

While Gregg found joy in his work and hobbies, his greatest pride was always his family — especially his daughters, their husbands, and his treasured grandchildren. Early in life, Gregg was married to Audrey Swarts, and together they were blessed with their daughters, Andrea and Lindsey. Anyone who crossed his path quickly learned about his girls and grandkids, as he never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments with a beaming heart. His love for them was endless and deeply felt.

Gregg later married Sue, and together they had a beautiful life filled with simple joys — quiet evenings at home, working on home projects together, and sharing the companionship of their dogs. Their love and partnership were constant sources of strength and happiness.

Gregg liked working with his hands — he was always fixing something or starting a new project. He loved spending his Sundays watching NASCAR and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. In addition, Gregg was a proud friend of Bill W., finding strength, fellowship, and lifelong friend of Bill W., finding strength, fellowship, and lifelong friendships through that important connection.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sue, of the home; his mother, Maxine Biggs; his sister, Jodi (John) Brinkman; his brother, Bob Biggs; his daughters, Andrea (Cy) Taylor and Lindsey (Norman) Hartman; and his beloved grandchildren: Canyn, Cayne, Crayton, Nolin, Laney, Noah, Gracie, Tristen, and Alleigh. He is also survived by many other family members and countless great friends who will miss his warmth, his humor, and his generous heart.
